Letters to the Planet

In 1776, horses were not companions or recreational luxuries. They were infrastructure itself, carrying transportation, farming, warfare, communication, and survival on their backs. Two hundred and fifty years later, machines have replaced nearly every practical role horses once filled, yet the emotional and symbolic bond remains surprisingly powerful. This letter follows America’s changing relationship with horses and asks whether technological progress sometimes removes us from forms of connection we never realized we would miss.
