An Introduction to Philosophy (RLL style) Week 06 – Metaphysics 3 (Metaphysical Monism) – Part 1: Introduction: If you had to choose, you would rather be without a body or a mind?

Dear Dichotomy,

In the grand debate of metaphysics, we stand at a crossroads between two realms: the mind and the body. The question isn’t merely about choosing one over the other, but about how we live our lives that truly reveals our philosophical alignment.

If we lean towards physicalism, we find ourselves focused on the tangible, the bodily experiences and physical needs. Our daily life reflects a belief that the mind is a byproduct of the body. On the other hand, if we lean towards idealism, our lives are often filled with introspection, meditation, and a deeper focus on consciousness and the spirit.

The true measure of our metaphysical stance isn’t just in our words, but in our actions and daily choices. Are we living as if the physical world is all that matters, or are we nurturing a deeper, inner reality?

So, dear reader, take a moment to reflect on your own life. Are your actions more aligned with the tangible or the intangible? Let your life answer that question, and share your thoughts with us.
