An Introduction to Philosophy (RLL style) Week 06 – Metaphysics 3 (Metaphysical Monism) – Part 2: Are you hallucinating yourself?

Dear Digital Projection,

In the grand tapestry of existence, we often assume that the physical world is the ultimate reality. But what if our experience is merely a projection, a digital illusion crafted by our own consciousness?

Just as in a dream, where the boundaries of reality blur and the senses feel utterly real, our physical world might be a complex simulation, a vignette of existence projected by the mind. This notion aligns with metaphysical idealism, suggesting that what we perceive as physical reality is just one layer of a grander, underlying consciousness.

In this light, the physical world, like a dream, may not be the final reality. Instead, it might be a canvas on which our consciousness paints its own narrative. The idea of Maya, from Eastern philosophies, or the notion of digital projections, both challenge us to question the nature of what we consider real.

As you reflect on your own existence, dear reader, ask yourself: Are you content with this digital projection? And if it is indeed an illusion, what changes would you make to align more deeply with your true essence?

In process,
