Dear Red Cross,
Imagine a world where the mind and body are distinct, where our consciousness could exist independently of our physical brain. If metaphysical dualism holds true, then could we donate our brain and still retain our consciousness? Picture this: if you had to choose between your brain and your body, which would you keep? Would your memories and consciousness remain intact if your brain were transplanted?
We often have full blood transfusions without feeling like we’ve lost a part of ourselves. But if we donate our brain, what would remain of “us”? Would the recipient inherit our thoughts, our memories, our very essence? Or would it be a blank slate?
This playful question challenges us to consider the very nature of our consciousness and what truly defines us. So, dear Red Cross, we invite you to ponder the implications of dualism and let your imagination roam.
What would you do with my brain?
With memory and curiosity,
