We spend so much time focusing on the things that make us different – our disagreements, our labels, our divisions – that we sometimes forget how much we share. The truth is, what unites us is far more powerful than what divides us. We all want safety, love, dignity, and a better future for the people we care about. And if we could just shift our focus to those common threads, we’d find that we have a lot more room to work together.
Think of it like a reminder from Gilligan’s Island: they might have been stuck on that island for a reason, but the real reason they struggled wasn’t because they were different. It was because they forgot to talk to each other and see each other as part of the same team. The same goes for us. If we can start by remembering that we’re all in this together, we might just find that we’re a lot stronger than we think.
