Dear Fellow Human who Just Wants to Go Back to Bed,
We’ve all had those days.
The coffee spills, the Wi-Fi dies, the traffic crawls, and every song on the radio sounds like it’s mocking you.
You stub your toe, you drop your keys, and the universe seems to whisper, “Oh, we’re doing this today.”
It’s the kind of day that makes you wonder if Mercury is not just in retrograde, but holding a grudge.
But here’s the thing about bad days – they’re not punishment. They’re pauses.
They’re the universe’s clumsy way of saying, “Slow down before you break down.”
Maybe the traffic jam kept you from being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Maybe the rain that ruined your plans saved you from burnout.
Maybe the missed call kept you from saying something you’d regret.
Maybe the detour showed you something beautiful you would’ve sped right past.
Sometimes, the best thing about a bad day is the way it protects you from yourself.
When everything’s going wrong, it’s easy to feel like life’s conspiring against you. But what if it’s actually conspiring for you?
What if that delay, that disappointment, that derailment – is the universe rearranging things for your good, even if it doesn’t feel like it?
The Stoics said, “The obstacle is the way.”
Zen calls it “beginner’s mind” – the art of seeing interruptions as invitations.
Every bad day is a rehearsal for grace. It’s a chance to practice patience, to laugh at the absurdity of being human, and to remember that control is mostly an illusion anyway.
And isn’t that kind of freeing?
Because when you stop fighting the day and start flowing with it, you realize that even chaos has a rhythm – and you can dance to it if you let go of needing to lead.
So tonight, when you finally collapse into bed and think, “What a disaster,”
pause just a second longer and add, “…but I made it through.”
That’s the quiet miracle of being alive.
The best thing about a bad day isn’t that it ends – it’s that when it does, it leaves a little wisdom behind.
With love (and a fresh cup of coffee),
